Five Things I Love About Being a Dog Walker
Being a Dog Walker is Good for the Soul
Sometimes I’ll be out walking dogs, and I’ll see cars lined up in traffic, full of frustrated people who are late for work, and I’m just so grateful to be outside, with this animal, moving at this pace. I know I’m lucky to have work that I genuinely enjoy on a day-to-day basis. Whatever the stresses of running a pet sitting business may be, when I get into my daily duties, I’m consistently content. There are loads of things to love about my job. Studies have proven that regular dog walking is good for your health. Being a dog walker at Boulevard Bark is good for the heart, mind, and soul. Here are five reasons why:
1 – Someone’s Always Happy to See Me
If you want to be greeted with warmth, enthusiasm and excitement every time you walk in the door for work, then you should definitely consider becoming a dog walker. No matter what kind of mood I’m in when I start the day, I always smile at how delighted my canine clients are to see me.
2 – I Always Get Enough Exercise
Going for 10,000 Fitbit steps per day? Try 20,000 or more. That’s where my step tracker ends up on my busy days. I know my heart and lungs thank me for all that dog walking I do.
3 – I Spend a Large Part of My Working Day Outdoors
True, here in Bellingham, WA, a dog walker has to put up with a lot of rain, wind, and sometimes snow. I’ve become pretty impervious to the elements. But despite run-ins with foul weather, I’d take working outside over being cooped up in an office any day.
4 – My Work Matters to Humans
For some of our clients, having a dog walker allows them to get out of the house and do things they couldn’t do otherwise. They’re able to work longer days or take trips, knowing that their pets will get the care and exercise they need, thanks to me! And that’s a splendid feeling.
5 – My Work Matters to Dogs
Most importantly, being a dog walker means knowing each day that I’m making a dog’s world brighter. Each animal that I visit and walk is a little happier and healthier thanks to me. Knowing that makes every rainy day, every hole in my shoes, and all the rest of this work worthwhile.
